LOULÉ CÂMARA, through its social services unit, will deliver a total of 1,800 hampers to needy residents living in the borough’s 11 parishes between December 13 and 20, with the aim of giving them a brighter Christmas.
Each hamper contains a range of food items including rice, beans, bacalhau (salt cod), olive oil, Bolo Rei (Portuguese Christmas cake), chick-peas, smoked sausage, marmalade and tinned fruit. The hampers will be distributed to the poor at day care centres, old people’s homes, community centres and parish council offices.
This is an annual campaign, which Loulé Câmara hopes will help bring a little warmth into the homes of those less fortunate during the season of goodwill.
