They haven’t even begun and already they are breaking records! An unprecedented number of exhibitors have signed up for the Ferragudo, Lagoa and Carvoeiro’s Christmas fairs this year.
Lagoa promises 96 stalls, Ferragudo’s Artenata around 50, while Carvoeiro has seen 70 apply for a spot.
Besides this, their programmes are being promoted as some of the municipality’s “best ever” with street entertainment, theatrical performances, concerts, parades, and much more.
First up is ‘Artenata’, taking place between December 6-8 at Largo Rainha D. Leonor and nearby streets in the fishing village of Ferragudo. Organised by the local parish council, it focuses on regional handicrafts and produce, as well as street entertainment. Now in its 10th year, Artenata runs every day from 10am to 8pm.
A few days later, Lagoa’s 4th Christmas Fair will open “outdoors” in front of the municipal auditorium to run over the weekend of December 12-14, from midday to 8pm.
According to organisers, the fair will feature a number of new attractions, including cinema sessions and a youth entertainment programme including musical and theatre performances like the one by students of the ESPAMOL school group at noon on December 12. There’s also a” big surprise” being kept under wraps which organisers say will “captivate” all those who visit.
While the fair will feature regional exhibitors, there will be some from other parts of the country as well.
Finally, festivities end with Carvoeiro’s own fair between December 19 and 21.
This will take place in the square in front of the beach and while it will also feature a number of exhibitors and a range of festive performances, some of the highlights will be a Santa parade by local children at 10am on the Friday and a Zumba dance class at 3pm on the Sunday. There will also be live music each day, theatre performances and fun activities for children.
Carvoeiro’s Scouts (C.N.E. – Agrup.1331 Carvoeiro) will be presenting a bumper life-size nativity scene to be on display during the fair, which will run between 10am and 8pm on the first day and between midday and 8pm on the second and third days.
