Residents and visitors of all ages came together on December 12 to celebrate Christmas in the seaside town.
Children from the local crèche, nursery and primary school dressed up as angels, gingerbread men, Christmas trees, presents and stars and entertained the hundreds of people who gathered in the town square.
The party, which included a magic show, musical performances from parents and singing groups and a visit from an eco-friendly Father Christmas, marked the first day of a week of celebrations in the town which will see daily live music performances from 3pm until December 19 and a Christmas fair from midday.
This is the first year that Carvoeiro has had a Christmas fair and the programme was organised by the association of residents and business owners to promote the town during the festive season. Other initiatives by the association have also included the lighting of shop windows with nativity scenes to replace the Christmas lights that will not be provided by Lagoa Câmara this year due to austerity measures.
