Christmas cheer from Tavira Treasure

There were smiles from the eldest and youngest members of the Tavira community this Christmas thanks to the success of the Tavira Treasure charity campaign run by members of the Tavira Christian Centre.

The charity, which started only a year ago, consists of volunteers who man a charity shop in Tavira every Wednesday and Saturday to raise funds for the Tavira Treasure charity.

This year, the charity raised enough money to be able to provide gifts and a party for the children of the Porta dos Amigos Children Centre while also donating presents to the elderly of Santo Estevão.

There are more than a hundred at the Porta dos Amigos Children’s Centre and every child received a gift and a personalised paint brush.

Some of the elderly members of the Tavira community were given gifts by volunteers.

The children then enjoyed a performance of Christmas carols in both English and Portuguese before meeting Father Christmas and receiving their gifts. Pastor Jackie King said: “Thanks to the dedicated band of volunteers, the generosity of those who bring and buy and the kindness of those who give their time in other ways, we have really been able to bless the children and old folk of Tavira this year.”

There are now plans to move the current charity shop to new premises in February.
