Three fund-raising Christmas cards, featuring designs by Algarve Resident readers, have gone on sale.
The designs by Paula Watt, Hillary Cunningham and Sara Willington won a competition run in the Algarve Resident in July.
With more than 30 years of service to the community and around 70 per cent of their work force being volunteers, Lagoa Bombeiros are a very worthy cause.
They are always in need of funds to purchase the vital equipment that helps to protect its firefighters and save lives.
A firefighter’s protective suit costs more than 600 euros, while a protective helmet costs around 250 euros.
As a volunteer, people are asked to work one night shift per week as well as attend compulsory training courses for first aid and to remove victims from vehicles.
The Christmas cards, which cost four euros for a pack of six and 7.5 euros for a pack of 12, are available from the Algarve Resident offices at Rua Visconde de Lagoa, No. 2 e 3 in Lagoa.
