Christmas shoeboxes for the 12th Annual Shoebox Drive for the Elderly have started arriving, but there is still time to participate in this initiative that aims to bring a smile to the many needy elderly supported by Silves-based charity Castelo de Sonhos.
All you need to do is find an empty shoebox, decide whether your gift will be tailored to a man, woman or couple, fill it with goodies, wrap the box with festive paper and deliver it to a collection point. You can individually wrap presents to make the moment all the more special.
Suggested items include shampoo, soap or body lotion; woolly hat, gloves, scarf or socks; sewing kit; face cloth or tea towel; small notebook and pen; sweets, chocolate or biscuits (please ensure they are well in date); small ornaments or Christmas decorations. Do not include medicines.
Castelos dos Sonhos, a registered charity that helps more than 200 elderly people living in the Silves area, wants to bring a sparkle to their festive period and its team is already preparing to get on the road and deliver the boxes.
Filled shoeboxes may be delivered to Castelo de Sonhos or the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra on or before December 9.
