SCOTTISH PREMIER League leaders Hearts have appointed Graham Rix as successor to the departed George Burley. The 48-year-old former Arsenal and England midfielder, who had a spell in management at Chelsea, has been out of work since leaving Oxford United in March.
Another former Chelsea boss, Gianluca Vialli, is in the running for the post of director of football at Tynecastle. Still in Scotland, Glasgow Ranger’s Alex McLeish is coming under increasing pressure following a string of poor results.
Former England manager turned TV pundit, Terry Venables, has been strongly linked with the vacant Republic of Ireland job. Steve Staunton is another possibility, although his lack of management experience may count against the Walsall defender.
In Germany, Giovanni Trapattoni’s days at Stuttgart look to be numbered – both Hannover’s Ewald Lienen and Nurnberg’s Wolfgang Wolf have already paid the price for their teams’ bad starts into the current season.
Dynamo Moscow, the team for which the Portuguese contingent of Nuno, Ribeiro, Frechaut, Costinha, Maniche, Danny, Derlei and Cicero are active, have appointed their fourth new coach of the current season – Brazilian Ivo Wortmann has been replaced by Yuri Siomin, who stepped down as manager of Russia the previous week.
