Choir sings for charity

A fundraising musical extravaganza featuring the São Lourenço Choir raised €2,800 in aid of the Algarve Oncology Association and other charities.

The performance, which took place on April 15 at the Lethes Theatre in Faro, was organised by Agnete Sylvan of the Rotary Club of Estoi Palace International and also a member of the choir.

The choir treated a full house of over 230 people to a selection of songs from Broadway musicals, including “West Side Story” and “My Fair Lady”.

The São Lourenço Choir was formed in January 2013. Numbers vary but currently the choir has around 40 members from different nationalities with a mix of sopranos, altos and baritones under the musical direction of Joyce Whitelaw. Its diverse repertoire ranges from jazz/swing through to classical. The choir is based in the São Lourenço Cultural Centre.
