A Chinese hydropower engineering and construction company is looking to invest in the building of dams in Portugal, reported Expresso newspaper.
It is reported that Sinohydro has contacted national official entities and has shown interest in the production of electricity.
But the company has reportedly been informed that Portugal is completely booked with hydroelectricity projects, namely by companies such as EDP, Iberdrola and Endesa. As a result, if Sinohydro wants to enter the dam sector they only have two options: to acquire one of the companies that are exploring hydroelectricity in Portugal or to negotiate a partnership with one of them.
Dams are not the only sector that has interested the Chinese company, which is also considering small hydro-plants, an area that has growth potential.
