On the last leg of her “selling the country’s ports to China” trip, Minister of the Sea Ana Paula Vitorino has heard from Fosun – the Chinese company that owns insurance group Fidelidade, Luz Saúde (formerly Espírito Santo Saude) and holiday operator Club Med- that it wants to keep investing in Portugal, reports Correio da Manhã.
It is particularly on the look-out for a “place to construct a resort”, says the paper.
Vitorino is reported to have had a private meeting to this effect with Fosun’s co-president Xu Xiaoliang who “demonstrated the commitment of the group in Portugal”.
For now, no locations are being mentioned though there are some key ‘top-notch projects’ aching for investors, particularly in the Algarve.
According to CM, Vitorino’s visit has seen Chinese interest in Portuguese investment “exceed expectations”.
