The first three months of 2022 have registered a 60% fall in Chinese ‘golden visa’ investment in Portugal. According to figures from SEF, even so investment this year has been in the region of €20.7 million. The wobble means China – which used to ‘lead the way’ in Authorisations of Residency for Investment (ARIs, the official name for golden visas) – has fallen behind the United States. China remains nonetheless in Portugal’s golden visa ‘top 5’ countries for investment.
