More than 600,000 US dollars worth of cocaine has been found hidden inside two children’s books shipped from Portugal to Sydney, Australia.
The books with Portuguese titles arrived in two shipments, on May 1 and May 4, say Australian police who have arrested a New South Wales man.
Whether this was a well-used ‘drug route’ is not yet clear.
The weight of cocaine involved was 1.72 kg.
Reports coming out of Australia say the street value would be somewhere in the region of 645,000 US dollars.
The arrested man is 31 years old. Searches of his home elicited a small quantity of cannabis, electronic equipment and documents.
Australian border control authorities reportedly discovered the cocaine after ‘x-raying’ the books as they passed through the system.
