An art exhibition entitled Art from the Heart in Tavira raised more than 725 Euros for the Pirilampos Children’s Home in Albufeira.
All paintings, which had been created by the children, were sold and further donations by visitors and the Cisterna Restaurant in Alcantarilha helped boost the amount.
Organised by Welsh artist David Haines and Mal Mudge, the exhibition, which ended on September 25, sold the 42 paintings on show to tourists from around the world.
The money was recently spent on food and treats for the children.
David Haines told the Algarve Resident: “When we arrived at the Pirilampos Home amid the hustle and bustle of happy children, they all helped carry in the food to the store room which I was shocked to see was nearly empty. We also plugged the refrigerator back on to keep the hams and cheese cold, as it had been turned off to save electricity.”
