Children “living among cockroaches” removed from Portimão apartment

Five children living in a filthy Portimão apartment have been removed from two sets of parents after police executed a search warrant to look for stolen goods.

The children – aged, 2, 3, 10, 13 and 15 all had head lice and were “living among cockroaches”, writes Correio da Manhã today.

The conditions in which they were found led police to “immediately activate” the commission for the protection of children and minors, as well as social workers, and the children have since been taken in by institutions, says the paper.

PSP police also discovered a stolen mobile phone in the property, in Rua da Hortinha.

Two people have been cited as “arguidos” (official defendants), over the stolen phone, but CM does not elaborate on what charges could arise over the condition of the children.
