Children help to create new book

Author Paula do Amaral was the guest speaker at the Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC), ahead of the launch of her new children’s book on June 1.

Paula do Amaral explained the background of the new book to the AIRC members: “This is a very different approach for a book and very motivating for the children involved who deserve attention and encouragement.”

Vitor Reis, the editor of the publishing company Ver o Verso based in Lisbon, came up with the idea to create a children´s book using only drawings made by children and for this project he looked to the help of the children of the Projecto Akreditar project in Quarteira.

The project is part of the Fundação António Aleixo and provides assistance for children from underprivileged families.

Paula do Amaral wrote the book As lições da Vó Patachoca: Arrumar é divertido, (Lessons from Granny Patachoca: Tidying up is fun) while photographer Ana Abrão contributed with pictures of the children creating the illustrations.

The book, which is only available in Portuguese, costs €13 with €3 from the sale of each book being donated to the Projecto Akreditar.

Copies of the book can be purchased through the AIRC by calling Selma Cazes on 916 189 983 or emailing [email protected].
