Most cases involving children at risk are reported by schools. A study carried out by the 305 Commissions for Child and Youth Protection in Portugal concluded that a total of 17,080 child at risk cases were reported in the first half of the year.
Schools reported 4,533 cases, followed by the police authorities (2,927) and parents/child carers (1,315).
