Child vaccine withdrawn after bad reactions

A multi-vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio has been suspended following serious adverse reactions in three children.
Reactions included strong pain and swelling throughout the vaccinated arm 48-hours after the injection.
A source for Infarmed, the national medicines regulatory authority, told Lusa news agency that it heard about the bad reactions on Thursday (March 20) and has since suspended the use of “Infanrix Tetra”.
The multi-pronged compound is now being tested by a drug safety team and will remain suspended until the authorities discover why children reacted so badly.
The Infarmed source stressed that side-effects can occur two to three days after vaccinations and should always be reported to health professionals.
