Chestnuts for all in Salir

St Martin’s Day will be marked in Aldeia da Pena, in the parish of Salir, with a festival of local products (Mostra de Produtos Locais) at the Centro Ambiental da Pena on November 10. The afternoon event will feature a variety of foods from the area, and a ‘Magusto’ celebration will see visitors gather around a fire to eat roasted chestnuts and drink the traditional alcoholic beverage jeropiga, which is a sweet wine made by stopping the fermentation process with the addition of vinic alcohol to the must. The event, which is free to attend, takes place from 2.30pm to 7pm and includes entertainment by ethnographic groups from Loulé council.
