Chega MP André Ventura has been formally accused of the crime of disobedience, following a political dinner held in a restaurant in Braga during the State of Emergency last winter. Political gatherings are exempt from States of Emergency (this particular incident played out in the context of Ventura’s bid for the presidency of the Republic). The outspoken MP, accused with five others, has already alleged ‘persecution’. “I don’t understand this accusation”, he told reporters. “This was a presidential campaign and a political act…” He will be using “all legal instruments” to prove his innocence, he added.
