CHEGA appears to be the only political party prepared to move forwards with proposals on how to firm up the ‘incompatibilities law’, to ensure no further cases bob to the public’s attention. Party leader André Ventura says CHEGA wants to prohibit “ministers and people holding public office from participating in any business deals with the State, independent of what share actions they hold”. He also wants to regime to apply to spouses/ partners, even if they are separated and/ or were previously married under the ‘separation of assets’ regime. Both the ruling PS and second largest party in parliament, the PSD appear to believe the law requires no changes, in spite of the recent very public controversies.
