CHEGA leader meets President Marcelo in Belém

CHEGA leader André Ventura has been received by President Marcelo in Belém, following his party’s show of pique over ‘discrimination’ which it claims parliamentary leader Augusto Santos Silva has been displaying, too often. Leaving the session in Belém this afternoon, Mr Ventura stressed that what has been going on in parliament is a “recurrent trampling of rules” / “ a gagging of democracy” which only the president has the political authority to rein in. “No constitutionalist would see Augusto Santos Silva in the right”, he told reporters. What CHEGA hopes now is that Marcelo “tells (Santos Silva) this (attitude) cannot continue”, said the party leader.
