CHEGA leader André Ventura has been visiting Madeira, intent on ‘puncturing’ the two party system that marks national politics. Madeira’s legislative elections come in a few weeks time (on September 24), thus this will be the first real test of whether CHEGA’s populist approach is working. Said Ventura in a speech at the fishing docks of Caniçal: “I think people have to decide, for the first time, if they want to make a change, or not”. CHEGA is already the 3rd most ‘represented party’ in national politics, behind the traditional two parties of PS (currently in absolute majority), and PSD.
