A 47-year-old man who was advertising holiday apartments in the Algarve was arrested on suspicion of fraud. Since 2010, the suspect had been advertising the apartments online, accepting deposits for holiday rentals and then disappearing with the money. Hundreds of complaints from affected clients and property owners, who trusted the man to conduct business on their behalf, were received by police. The swindler faces more than 20 charges of obtaining money by false pretences and is in preventive custody awaiting a court hearing.
