Charity wine tasting and dinner to benefit Food Bank

Get the New Year off to a good start with a charity wine tasting and dinner at Restaurant Garrafeira Veneza, near Paderne, on Friday, January 25.

The event starts at 8pm in the wine-drenched atmosphere of the garrafeira (cellar). Seven wines will be presented and served with appropriately matched food; the wines will also be available for sale on the evening at special promotional prices.

The evening is being organised by Rotary Club Estoi Palace International, together with the Algarve Chapter of the Rotary Wine Appreciation Fellowship (RWAF).

The local chapter now has 23 members from seven Rotary clubs and is continuing efforts to raise funds for a refrigerated lorry for the Banco Alimentar (Food Bank.)

As initiated by an RWAF chapter in Texas, the project is in its final stages of funding. Financed through the Rotary Matching Grant Programme, the local group committed to raising the equivalent of US$ 10,000 within Portugal, with the remaining funds for the project to be sourced from international partner clubs and districts, and also including matching funds from Rotary International Headquarters in Chicago. The total grant has a value of US$ 53,000.

As an item of special interest, a commemorative bottle of Duke of Bragança port – Vallegre Vinhos “Regis Causa” Vintage 2007 will be auctioned as well.

It’s now time to make the final push to reach the goal, and what better way to do it than through a wine tasting and dinner, featuring the wide range of wines produced by Campolargo Vinhos.

Producer Carlos Campolargo and local distributor Algarwine have generously offered the wines, and Carlos will be there to personally introduce his range.

The price for the evening is €30. “Whether you put together a table of friends or come along individually, you’re sure to have a great time and benefit a worthy project,” say organisers.
