Pêra village is holding the 13th Arraial do Petisco (tapas festival) on July 29, 30, 31 and August 5, 6 and 7.
The event at the Polidesportivo de Pêra aims to raise funds for the construction of the Centro Paroquial de Pêra, a centre which will be offering support to various groups of people such as the elderly and children.
A spokesman for the Arraial do Petisco said: “The new centre will provide essential services to residents from Pêra and surrounding areas. It will include a day centre for 30 people as well as provide home care services and health assistance to residents in the area.
“The Centro Paroquial de Pêra will also have a kindergarten with capacity for 75 children, a nursery with capacity for 66 children, and after school and summer activities for up to 30 children.”
The Centro Paroquial de Pêra represents an investment of €2.5 million and part of it will be funded by the State. The spokesman said: “We are yet to know what percentage will be State financed, so we need people’s support to get this vital project off the ground.”
Organised by the party committee and Pêra Parish Centre, visitors will be able to sample traditional Algarvean treats such as papas de milho, snails, octopus salad, boiled shrimp, corn, fried eel, grilled sausage and orelha de porco (pig’s ear), among others.
The doors will be open from 8pm.
