Resurrected after a four-year absence, the ‘Swim and Social Gathering’ on Christmas Day in Praia da Luz was attended by many local residents keen to support the event which was in aid of the Lagos Bombeiros.
Praia da Luz quickly filled with people sampling mulled wine, coffee, brandy and mince pies, available free of charge.
All proceeds from donations were in aid of the Bombeiros’ Ladder Repair Fund. The ladder, whichreaches a height of 30 metres, needs repairs in excess of €13,000. Funding for such equipment is still required and members of the community are asked to help this cause.
The swim was organised by Leigh Ashmore, Avril Patchett and Jo Dawes, who live in the Lagos area. They also held three car boot sales and a large raffle, all with gifts and donations supplied from local people and businesses.
At the Arco Iris (Rainbow) bar in Espiche, over €800 was raised in raffle tickets alone.
Total funds raised over the five events exceeded €2,310.
Anyone interested in helping further or wanting to get involved should leave their name at the Rainbow Bar.
