Five friends from Somerset arrived in Armação de Pêra on October 3 after cycling from their home town of Taunton to the Algarve in aid of a local hospital.
One of the riders, Gary Chaffey, told the Algarve Resident: “All went well on the ride and we arrived at 3.15pm in Armação de Pêra. We travelled a total distance of 717 miles and were on the road for 69 hours.”
He added: “We only had one minor incident during the journey and four punctures and although we have not got the final total raised collated yet we are still pushing towards the 10,000 Pounds Sterling mark.”
The money raised by the team will be put towards the resurfacing and reequipping of the outdoor play area of the Children’s Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.
