Representatives of the ALL organisation (Algarve Ladies that Lunch) and the Second Chance Charity Shop in Ferreiras recently visited the Gaivota home for teenagers in Albufeira to give donations for the children who are being cared for there.
ALL had raised €1,000 from the generous donations by their lady members and this money was converted into 45 “surprise cards” to the value of €20 and €25, which the children will be given for birthdays or as rewards for special effort. These cards can be used to make purchases in almost all of the shops in the Algarve Shopping complex in Guia.
Patricia Roberts and Libby North from ALL gave the cards to Cláudia Loios, Diretora Técnica at Gaivota.
Also attending was Maggie Cook who runs the Second Chance Charity Shop in Ferreiras. Maggie brought some much-needed towels for the children but, on seeing the amount of work that is ongoing refurbishing the centre, she arranged to make further donations of equipment or furniture as required by Cláudia Loios.
The Gaivota centre cares for teenagers who would otherwise be homeless. They currently have 25 children that are being cared for, but this will rise to 40 once the refurbishment is completed.
The Gaivota centre is in great need of further help. To make a donation, either go to the Second Chance Charity Shop in Ferreiras or contact the centre manager Cláudia Loios by email on [email protected]
