Chaos on Lisbon-Dublin flight as young Portuguese dies in mysterious circumstances

Irish police are still investigating the bizarre death of what was thought to be a young Portuguese man on a flight from Lisbon to Dublin over the weekend. The 25-year-old suddenly “became agitated”, before suffering convulsions and losing consciousness. On the same flight, a woman, also believed to be Portuguese, was later found in possession of nearly 2kg of amphetamines.

According to the Guardian newspaper this morning, the woman has been arrested in connection with the death of the man.

An autopsy will now go ahead to show investigators whether or not the two cases are related.

For the time being, detailed reports have been taken from all 170 passengers on the Aer Lingus flight EI485 on Sunday, which had to be diverted to Cork due to the young man’s collapse.

A passenger who tried to help in the medical emergency had to be treated in hospital for a bite he received to his hand, reports Jornali online.

Subsequent stories in Portuguese and British media suggest the dead man was Brazilian, not Portuguese.
