Dear Editor,
There has been much speculation on the true effect of the A22 tolls on business in the Algarve.
This year for a change we spent Christmas in Monte Gordo and compared to five years ago, when it was like a morgue, the town was absolutely bustling with mainly Dutch and Spanish visitors plus a sprinkling of British. The same applied to Vila Real, and Ayamonte over the border, was positively busy.
Whilst having a drink in Castro Marim, we observed the traffic and noted approximately 90% turning off the A22 on to the N125.
Could this be the reason it is now Carvoeiro, Armação and other resorts further west are now like the aforementioned morgue?
