When diehard Birmingham City supporter Mark Oliver decided to fly his new bride Katie to the Algarve to celebrate his 50th birthday little did he realise the surprise that was in store for him.
As an avid football fan, he and Katie decided to travel from Albufeira to Olhão to watch the Olhanense game. Mark said: “As it was my birthday on the day of the game, we took a bottle of champagne with us. We happened to meet the Expat Supporters Group before the game who ‘confiscated’ the bottle! Then at half-time we were whisked up to the President’s box where the champagne was uncorked and Isidoro Sousa toasted our health. I can never imagine this happening in England. We would like to thank everyone at Olhanense for making our day very, very special.” Read Sport on pages 46 and 47.
