Chaîne des Rôtisseurs goes Moorish in Silves

On August 4, the Bailli of the Algarve, Marie-Anne Ferran, invited Chaîne des Rôtisseurs members, their families and friends to a Moorish party in a Bedouin tent under the ancient walls of the Silves castle.

Silves (Xelb then) was the Moorish capital of the Algarve until its castle was taken in 1189 and only finally conquered by the Christian crusaders in 1242.

The Café Inglês had organised a superb dinner on the theme, starting with hummus, tzatziki and falafel, and continuing with apricot and almond couscous, and a choice of lamb, vegetarian and shrimp tagines, Quwarmah Al Dajaj and a Sri Lankan rice.

Chaine event 3

When the night fell, we were entertained by a memorable show of fire display and belly dancing, before the dinner ended in style with a delicious baklava and traditional sweets of almonds and figs.

Another great event organised by the Algarve Baillage of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

If you are interested in joining the Chaîne, contact the Bailli of the Algarve, Marie-Anne, at email [email protected] or call (351) 965874807. Gourmets are always welcome!
