CGTP, the confederation of Portuguese workers, has scheduled a national rally for Lisbon on Thursday July 7 – the idea being that this will close ‘a month of struggle’ (against the government) for better living conditions. As reports today explain, the CGTP considers the need to increase salaries and pensions to be “a national emergency”. It vowed a month of industrial action on the day parliament approved the State Budget, and has various initiatives planned for this month at Docapesca (fish docks), the Transtejo and Soflusa (ferry companies), CP (rail network) and CTT (Post Office).
