Cervical screening

The regional health service will be providing free screenings for cervical cancer for women aged between 25 and 64 from September.

According to gynaecologist Dr Gabriela Bastos from Barlavento hospital in Portimão, the Algarve is the region with the highest incidence of the disease because of a lack of screenings.

More than 130,000 women who are registered in the region’s health centres will be systematically called to be screened.
