Centre for physical medicine opens in São Brás

CARMEN PIGNATELLI, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Health, recently signed a contract, allowing building to start on the Algarve’s first Centre of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in São Brás de Alportel.

The centre, which will be the only one south of Lisbon, is expected to open in November of this year and will treat people following cerebrovascular accident, as well as those with neurological, rheumatic, orthopaedic, pulmonary and cardiovascular injuries. Rehabilitation therapy units will also be available.

The project is funded by the Grupo Português de Saúde, and a public-private coalition, which has invested 3.5 million euros in the centre. Around 116 jobs will be created once the centre is up and running.
