Celebrity charity golf

Monte Rei Golf & Country Club will be playing host to a charity golf tournament boasting celebrity players on October 12 in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation.

The Marie Keating Foundation was set up in 1998 following the death of Marie Keating and since then her family, which includes singer Ronan Keating, have been committed to providing information to prevent cancer or to detect it at its earliest stages.

This is the second year that the Monte Rei Golf & Country Club has held the tournament for the Irish charity, and organisers hope that the event this year will surpass that of last year through the generosity and support of the golfing competitors and guests at the resort.

Gary Keating, one of the founders of the Marie Keating Foundation, said: “We are thrilled that Monte Rei has agreed to host our Portugal golf tournament for a second time. This year is set to be bigger and better than last year, with celebrities and well known golfers in attendance including former footballers Alan Shearer and Rob Lee.”

The event will start at 10am with a team breakfast before a shot gun start at midday.

After playing golf the guests will be able to relax in the club house before a dinner at the Vistas restaurant.

Entry to the tournament costs €1,000 per four person team.
