More than 70 people joined the international celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion (RBL) by attending a barbecue lunch at the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra on June 15.
In his welcome, the National Chairman Des Briggs highlighted the fact that two of those at the lunch, Ron Fox and Dudley Rowe, were born before the founding of the RBL.
Thanks were extended to those who contributed to the event and raffle, particularly the Holiday Inn Algarve, Taylors Port and Sovereign Consultoria, who provided a magnum of champagne as the star prize, which was won by Carol Austin.
A total of €652 was raised which will go towards the RBL 90th Anniversary Appeal.
Although this is part of the Poppy Appeal, it is being accounted for separately.
A celebratory cake was cut by one of the newest members, 86-year-old Harry Wilson.
