An art exhibition organised by the owner of the internationally recognised London-based Catto Gallery is to open in Quinta do Lago on July 31.
After nearly 30 years in London, art gallery owner Gillian Catto decided to decamp from London and settle in the Algarve.
She was responsible for launching the careers of artists who have subsequently become household names, including Scottish painter Jack Vettriano. Gillian Catto now intends to showcase some of the best international and national artists in the Algarve.
For her inaugural exhibition in Portugal, she has elected to show three diverse international artists, renowned French painter Alain Bertrand and two emerging sculptors, the Zimbabwean Toin Adams and the Portuguese José Eduardo.

Gillian Catto said: “When I came across José Eduardo’s beautiful work, I knew that I just had to show him in his own country, while Toin is a wonderful Zimbabwean sculptress and I believe that their sculptures create a dialogue and complement each other”.
She added: “I have worked with Alain Bertrand for many years and I have enormous respect for him as a man and an artist. He is quite a rarity, a charming Frenchman with a wicked sense of humour
who adores vintage Americana and classic cars. His painstaking work is unparalleled.”
Famous guitarist Jeff Beck will be attending the opening night preview of the exhibition. The show will take place at The Keys in Quinta do Lago, which is located opposite De Barra bar, behind the Quinta Shopping Centre.
The exhibition is open to the public every day between 10.30am and 10pm, from July 31 until September 10, 2011, and entrance is free.
