In a bid to improve the area’s public buildings, Barreiro Câmara recently rescued and treated a well-known cat colony, which lives on the roof of the Municipal library. The cats have now been sterilised, treated for fleas and other illnesses and are being kept at a local vet clinic. With the animals gone from the area, work on waterproofing the library roof has begun. The cats will return to the location after work has finished and to improve conditions for the feline guests, two specially designed animal houses are going to be fitted to the roof and volunteers from the Cats’ Association will feed the animals every day.
