Another season has rolled around once again and twelve teams set out on the long haul to the League Championship 2010/ 2011.
The all-conquering Alvor Greens had a shaky start at PDF, where they ran into a very determined Crusaders team.
The scores ended 47-47 after a very tight and enthralling match. Greens escaped with most of the points, however, winning 5-3 overall.
Tavira entertained the Alvor Amigos and another very tight game finished 46-44 to the home team, although the points were shared 4 each.
Amendoeira Nuts had a convincing win over the fancied Alvor Harlequins by 52-41, although again the points were split four apiece.
Valverde Vulcans played host to the PDF Sinners and ran out winners by 64-44, taking six points to the two for the Sinners.
Alvor Gladiators are another strong team with title aspirations, however they were narrowly beaten by a resilient Pedras Panthers 57-54.
Once again, however, the overall points were shared four each.
Albufeira Cats made their usual strong start at home to the Valverde Vikings, sweeping all the points 8-0 and winning in convincing fashion by 80-27.
At this early stage Cats top the table on eight points followed by the Vulcans with six and the Greens on five points.
Nuts, Panthers, Tigers, Amigos, Gladiators and Harlequins are all on four points. Crusaders have three points, Sinners have two and Vikings have yet to open their account.
The close nature of many of the matches in this first week indicates that the improving general standard of play bodes well for all teams in the forthcoming matches.
All the very best to all teams in the coming season and we also look forward to the Inter Club competitions, which will start shortly.
These promise to be even bigger and better than before, with more competitions and a finals day at the Valverde Club.
