Following landmark legislation that has outlawed cruelty to pets in Portugal, the government has voted in a new ‘bonus’ for owners, allowing them to claim for up to €250-worth of vet’s bills every year. The allowance comes into effect for next year’s returns, and was pushed through by the PS, Bloco de Esquerda and PCP communists, with CDS MPs voting against and the PSD abstaining.
