Catholic Mass will be celebrated in three languages – French, German and English – this Sunday, August 13, at 10.30am, at the Carvoeiro chapel, Ermida da Nossa Senhora da Encarnação, on the eastern cliffs.
The Carvoeiro Catholics group says: “Our celebrant will be His Eminence the Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg. The Cardinal has been accompanying Pope Francis in Lisbon for World Youth Day and is now holidaying in Carvoeiro and has kindly offered our community a number of masses during his time here.
“Cardinal Hollerich is Pope Francis’ Relator General for the worldwide Synod 2021-2023. His brief rest time in the Algarve is precious and we are most grateful for his kind attention.
“Everyone is welcome, especially summer visitors flooding in from all parts of the world. The multilingual service will have something of value for everyone.”
Cardinal Hollerich will also be saying the Portuguese Mass on the next two Saturday evenings at 5.30pm (August 12 and 19), as well as the Monthly English Mass on Sunday, August 20 at 4pm.
Next week on Tuesday, August 15, there is a public holiday in honour of Our Lady of the Assumption. Mass will be said in Carvoeiro on Monday evening at 9.30pm in Portuguese and on Tuesday morning at 10.30am by the Cardinal in English.
At all masses, cash collections for the Food Bank will be held, in support of over 100 families in need.
