Dear Editor,
I have lived in Portugal for 15 years and was appalled to read the article about cat burning. This barbaric practice apparently stopped in all but a few communities in 2008. That it continues at all is beyond belief.
That the culprits face a potential jail sentence of just one year or 120 days fine, whatever that is, seems relatively benign.
Given that the culprits would seem to be soulless maybe the punishment should fit the crime. Ah well, at least they seem to have stopped burning so-called witches at the stake.
