Casualty chaos on way as doctors reject overtime cuts

A 50% reduction in overtime pay to doctors working in casualty departments threatens A&E chaos, stress unions, as doctors simply won’t play ball. “We’re not talking about a strike yet,” SIM union boss Roque da Cunha explains, “but if doctors decide not to work overtime, then the health ministry will have to work it out”. Doctors are annually ‘obliged’ to work 200 extra hours per year but this figure “often reaches 624 hours”, say unions.
