Castro Marim seamstresses sew masks for Faro Hospital

A group of seamstresses from Castro Marim have been keeping busy by sewing protective masks for health professionals at Faro Hospital.

They are part of the Atelier Medieval sewing group which, at this time of year, would be making costumes for the town’s popular medieval event ‘Dias Medievais’.

But given the coronavirus outbreak, their talents have been put to use to help keep those on the frontline of the battle safe.

“We have seen a strong charitable movement throughout the whole country. Castro Marim is no exception,” says the local council.

For now, there are 15 seamstresses involved although the council believes that the number of people joining efforts will grow soon.

While the priority is getting the masks to health professionals, the goal is to also distribute them amongst the local population.

Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to contact the local council.
