Castro Marim projects  go ahead, says Mayor

Tourist development projects are set to go ahead in Castro Marim, according to Câmara President José Estevens, despite concerns that they may have been affected by the financial crisis.

He gave as an example the Verde Lago tourist development, a project of national interest (PIN), which is expected to represent an investment of around 259 million euros, as well as creating 800 jobs during its construction.

“The process is on my desk and all that is needed is the licence to start construction,” he told Barlavento newspaper, adding that another PIN project, the Quinta do Vale resort near the Guadiana river, has also not fallen victim to any problems from the current economic crisis.

José Estevens also said that the developer is pleased with the occupation levels of the golf course, which was inaugurated in 2008, and the residential area has been licensed for construction, while the hotel is currently being approved by the national tourism board.
