Silves-based charity Castelo de Sonhos is launching its 17th Annual Shoebox Drive for the Elderly in a bid to help more than 200 elderly people in the Algarve.
Anyone can participate and help these people enjoy a happier Christmas. Firstly, you need an empty shoe box and decide whether the box is meant for a man or a woman. After this, it is time to fill the shoe box with a variety of gifts (each gift may be individually wrapped).
The gifts can be anything you like (apart from medicines or alcohol), although Castelo dos Sonhos has revealed a list of suggested items: shampoo, soap, body lotion, bath gel, foam hairbrush, comb, mirror, woolly hat, gloves, scarf, socks, hankies, tights, small shawl, sewing kit, shower cap, torch, face cloth, tea towel, small notebook and pen, sweets, chocolates, cakes, biscuits, small ornaments and Christmas cards.
The gifts must be packed carefully before the shoebox is wrapped and labeled for a man or woman or a couple.
The last step is to deliver the shoeboxes to Castelo de Sonhos in Silves or the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra between November 15 and December 9.
The shoeboxes will then be delivered to the elderly in need.
Last year’s drive was hailed a “tremendous success” by organisers, with over 250 boxes collected and delivered. Hopes are that this number will be matched or surpassed this year.
