Case remains closed

Portugal’s general attorney (PGR) decided on June 21 that the new information about a convicted British paedophile was not sufficient to reopen the case of the missing Madeleine McCann.

The fact that Raymond Hewlett had been near the Ocean Club around the time that Madeleine McCann went missing on May 3, 2007 was not considered reason enough by the PGR to reopen the investigation.

According to a statement from the PGR, “Speculation, opinions and commentaries are not enough to reopen an investigation. When concrete facts that are considered relevant by the magistrates appear, then the process will be reopened”.
