Casa Velha unveils Portuguese-inspired menu

A new chapter for Quinta do Lago’s iconic restaurant

Quinta do Lago’s iconic restaurant Casa Velha has reopened with a “new concept and a new story to tell” whilst still maintaining the “excellence” it is known for.

“After a break to work on new creations and explore new flavours and ideas, Casa Velha is now focusing on a menu that is more typically Portuguese, featuring dishes to share, with authentic and sophisticated food, enriched with the traditional flavours of our culture and characteristic wines,” reveals the restaurant.

Its new menu features several appetisers, cheeses, charcuterie and salads, as well as a variety of meat, fish and vegetable-based main courses.

Meat lovers can choose between four dishes: duck rice croquettes, grilled chicken supreme, ‘pica-pau’ (marinated beef tenderloin cooked with garlic white wine, pickles, bay leaf, olives and chives), and ‘bitoque de vitela à Portuguesa’ (a traditional Portuguese steak).

The restaurant’s selection of fish and seafood dishes includes codfish, a tuna toastie, ‘polvo à lagareiro’ (octopus cooked in the typical ‘Lagareiro’ style) and spicy shrimp ‘xerém’ (corn porridge).

For those who prefer dishes in which vegetables shine, there is also fried Agria potatoes, ‘peixinhos da horta’ (fried batter-covered green beans), ‘arroz malandrinho’ (a roasted tomato rice) and fava bean fricassé.

Some of the dishes on the menu have vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free options.

Even the restaurant’s desserts are inspired by Portuguese cuisine, with the typical ‘arroz doce’ sweet rice, a coffee-flavoured ‘pastel de nata’ (custard tart), and a goat cheese cheesecake.

“At Casa Velha, you can experience a glimpse of the Algarve with an authentic outdoor dinner surrounded by lemon trees, savouring the flavours of Portuguese cuisine. An embroidered tablecloth awaits you at your table, offering the true traditional essence in an iconic place that has always been dedicated to its passion: providing the best gastronomic experience to its visitors,” the restaurant says.
