CASA Social Club selected Cadiz in Spain this year for a five-day trip.
After an early start out of Lagos on the morning of Monday, November 5 and four further pick-ups across the Algarve, the 51 members arrived at the five-star Iberostar Selection Andalucía Playa Hotel, south of Cadiz, just in time for a short break before meeting again for dinner.
The extensive buffet, which varied slightly in theme each night, was a delight to both the eyes and the palate. Beautifully prepared and presented dishes as far as the eye could see made it difficult at times to make choices.
Tuesday saw CASA members back on the coach for the easy drive over to Jerez where most enjoyed an entertaining and professional display by the horses and riders at the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre.
A few had seen the horses on previous visits so took the opportunity of the additional time to visit the Alcazar, Cathedral and museums.
Some of the plentiful sherry bodegas may have also played their part in providing a little diversion before the coach took members back to the hotel for another dinner.
On Wednesday, it was time for a boat trip up the Guadalquivir River and visit to the Doñana National Park, after which some toured Cadiz city while most returned to the hotel for a ‘lazy’ afternoon enjoying the hotel’s extensive facilities.
Thursday was centred around an informative tour of the family run Bodega Guitiérrez Colosia, with a tasting session of five sherries and a brandy – judging by the vast number of bags of bottles carried out to the coach afterwards, this must have been well appreciated!
A couple of hours free in Cadiz and another excellent dinner kept all fully occupied for the remainder of the last day.
Friday morning finally saw the group back on the coach for the drive home. Thanks went to driver Senhor Florentino who seemed to know every road like the back of his hand!
The next scheduled CASA event is the special Christmas Dinner in Monte Carvoeiro on Saturday, December 7.
